NANOOKSHUK
This design plays on the Inuit identity of Nanook, given to the polar bear, and the Inukshuk, a directional guide for a safe journey that Inuit peoples create out of stacking stones. These primitive stone images, supporting each other, reflect the way each of us depends on one another and a spirit of co-operation.

Artist: Charles Johnston
Johnston’s mural art can be seen on the streets of downtown Winnipeg. His sculptures, portraits, and canvases are shown privately.

Sponsor: The Winnipeg Foundation
The Winnipeg Foundation, a centre for community philanthropy, makes grants to a wide range of community projects from health, education and the environment to heritage, recreation and the arts.
